This blog is about Nicholas’s journey through autism to recovery.

His poor little tummy

31 December, 2008 (17:17) | Journal | By: Mom

Nicholas’s tummy seems to be a little less bloated the past few days. A shirt which was way too tight on him a week ago is now fitting him just fine. I have to start measuring him again so I can keep track. But there is a noticable difference that it has gone down quite a bit.

Receptive Language

31 December, 2008 (17:15) | Journal | By: Mom

Ever since we started the Enhansa, Nicholas’s receptive language has greatly diminished. He’s making great progress in other areas, but I feel like he’s “ignoring” me when I am talking to him - and when I “think” he is paying attention, I really dont think he’s retained one word of what I have said. He was doing fabulous in this area, so this is a bit disheartening - but they say, Enhansa can cause a healing regression - and if it’s helping, we’re willing to push through and endure this for a while.

I’m thinking about increasing his dose back to 150mg per day starting on January 5th. It all depends on how he does on the new acetyl-l-carnitine that I just ordered goes.

Answering the phone

31 December, 2008 (17:08) | Journal | By: Mom

Nicholas has never been one to get on the phone and talk or even listen. Daddy just made Nicholas’s phone in his new little kitchen ring. Nicholas picked up and this is what he said - much to our amazement or should I say, shock!

“Hello, this is Nicholas, I’m here with daddy” and a stream of other words we could not quite understand.

Going back to play kitchen, just wanted to note this before I forgot exactly what he said.

Juicing Veggies for Nicholas

30 December, 2008 (01:00) | Journal | By: Mom

So, I took the plunge today and bought a juicer, well, Santa technically bought it for me - I just went and picked it up. :-) Yes, I still believe in Santa. I’ve been reading alot about juicing and the health benefits from juicing raw fruits and vegetables that I really want to give it a try - for all of us, not just Nicholas. However, the number one reason to do this was to get more vegetables into him!

So, off I go to find some good starter recipies - that taste good. Although, with the crappy taste that his supplement drinks have, I think anything remotely palatable would be an improvement.

Finally enjoying holiday festivities!

30 December, 2008 (00:55) | Journal | By: Mom

I almost forgot to write about this…. but just more supporting details that Nicholas finally got Christmas and the festivities surrounding the holidays this year…

We baked cookies, we decorated the Christmas Tree, we decorated the house with Christmas lights, we watched Christmas specials, the Walt Disney Christmas Day parade….. and there’s more…. oh so much more…

Right after Thanksgiving, we went out and purchased a new Christmas tree. We really had no choice this year as some new furniture made it impossible to use our tree ever again. So, we put up the tree and Nicholas helped decorate it. And not just one ornament - he was hanging one ornament after another and another. He even looked at the tree and started singing “O Christmas Tree” - we were in shock.

Well, Mommy wasn’t all that happy with the way this tree looked with our ornaments, so we decided to return it, buy a real tree this year and worry about it next year. Nicholas came home from school and the tree was gone. He was shocked not to see the tree there - and kept asking where the tree was. He was thrilled when Daddy brought the new tree in - and he was more than eager to help us decorate the tree once again.

In the midst of the tree debacle, the Christmas shows are starting to play on the major stations. Nicholas watched Rudolf - I cannot tell you how many times. We watched Shrek the Halls a few times - and there were others… I cannot convey how much I enjoyed FINALLY getting to watch these Christmas shows with my son. and he loved them. And he knows who Charlie Brown and Snoopy are - and we watched this Christmas show too - and he loved it. I thought he’d be bored with all of these, but he loved them.

Daddy decorated the outside of the house with white and colored lights, three reindeer of varying heights who moved like they were flying. Nicholas was in absolute delight watching them from the diningroom window. A couple of weeks ago, we added an inflatable Santa Mickey to our collection - and if that Mickey was not inflated when Nicholas got home from school, we heard about it! :)

A few days ago, we broke out the cookie dough and made Christmas cookies. Nicholas (and his cookie cutters) were all in. We cut out trains and stockings, snowmen and candy canes. He had a blast. and has asked me several times when we were going to make more cookies. Funny thing was, he wouldn’t eat them. He loved using his rolling pin to roll out the dough, put flour on it, cut out his shapes and put the tray in the oven. He checked the oven several times to watch them cooking - and then was SO excited when it was time for them to come out. He would not even take a bite. So funny.

Christmas Day, I DVR’d the Walt Disney Christmas Day Parade. I love to watch them (when I have the power to fast forward) - and he sat and watched quite a bit of it with me. He was in awe over the Disney Characters, floats and such. I still have it recorded, we may just watch it again.

At Nicholas’s Christmas party at school, he handed out his gifts to his teachers - telling each one Merry Christmas as he handed them their present. Then giving each one an umprompted hug and kiss.

He knew Santa was bringing presents and talked about putting cookies and milk out for him. (Oops, mom forgot to prompt this when we got home late on Christmas eve)

I’ll add more as it comes to mind…..

Bye-bye Microwave

29 December, 2008 (15:18) | Journal | By: Mom

Well, it’s official. Our home is microwave-free. Just another step towards a healthier life for us and Nicholas.

I have been disliking microwaves for quite some time now - and have been waiting to toss it until I could afford to spend some extra money on a new toaster oven - and since the Santas in my life were quite generous this year :) - I just picked this up from Williams Sonoma (along with my new juicer - but I’ll save that for another thread!)

Breville Countertop Convection Oven

I’m going to come back and add the info on Microwaves I found when I have a chance. I couldn’t even read through it all, it just made me ill.

2008 Nobel Prize for Medicine courtesy of AstraZeneca?

I guess we can now say that the Nobel Prize is “one less” award that actually means something in this world.

AstraZeneca’s Financial Ties to the Nobel Prize Foundation Raise Suspicions

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, December 28, 2008
Key concepts: Nobel Prize, AstraZeneca and Financial ties

Questions are being raised about a web of financial ties between the drug maker AstraZeneca and the Nobel Prize Foundation. According to reports from Pharmalot and Discover Magazine, AstraZeneca has financially sponsored two of the Nobel Foundation subsidiaries and maintains strong financial ties to decision makers who actually award the Nobel Prize.

But that’s not all: A member of the Nobel Committee serves on the AstraZeneca board, and another top representative of the Nobel Committee received money from AstraZeneca in 2006.

Why is this suspicious? Because the 2008 Nobel Prize for Medicine was awarded to a scientist who discovered the human papillomavirus (HPV), for which AstraZeneca’s subsidiary, MedImmune, holds valuable vaccine patents. Glorifying HPV through a Nobel Prize award also provides valuable publicity about the virus, resulting in direct financial gains for the HPV vaccines sold by drug companies.

Is there no institution in medicine that has not been hijacked by Big Pharma’s agenda? With drug companies now running the med schools, the medical journals, the mainstream media and the lawmakers, I suppose it was only a matter of time before they took over the “prize” institutions as well. It’s all part of a deeply corrupted system to try to legitimize an industry of death built on deceptions and junk science.

But the HPV award may not be the only one that’s suspect: The Nobel Prize for medicine was also given this year to the discoverers of HIV. And guess what? Nobel Prize spokesperson Jan Andersson has been on the GlaxoSmithKline payroll since 1999 and is the founder of a Swedish company that sells HIV vaccines.

It’s a lot like the race for class president at your local high school: “You nominate me, and I’ll nominate you!”

I never thought I’d be calling the Nobel Prize Foundation a whore, but then again, I never thought I’d see it handing out prizes that directly benefit the financial interests of the very same drug company it has so many suspicious ties with.

There goes my own hope of ever receiving a Nobel Prize, huh? I guess I can stop working on my secret lab project where I was trying to discover what part of the human brain is responsible for all the corruption in modern medicine. The work has been exceptionally difficult because it turns out these people have no brains!

Did they really think nobody would notice all the favoritism behind the awarding of a Nobel Prize?

Increasing Acetyl-L-Carnitine

29 December, 2008 (00:45) | Supplements | By: Mom

Now that we’re seeing some great speech coming from the increased dose of the DMG, I have been ramping up his daily dose of Acetyl-L Carnitine since he’s been at a very low dose since I introduced it.

By December 31st, we will be up to 635mg twice a day provided he does okay between now and then.

On 12/27, 1 1/2 pinches total = 238 mg
On 12/28, 2 pinches total = 317.5 mg (so far, so good)
On 12/29, 3 pinches total = 476 mg
On 12/30, 1/4th tsp which equals 635mg
On 12/31, 1/4th tsp 2x which equals 1270mg

We’ll see how he does on this dose and will back down as needed.

Update: 12/31/2008: We’re holding steady at 317.5mg for right now. The brand I had purchased tastes extremely bitter and sour, so mixing this with anything has been an absolute chore. I just ordered some from ProThera (Klaire) - and they’ve told me the taste on this is neutral - so it should be easier to mix with his juice.

So, by 1/4/2009, I’m hoping to have him taking 500mg 3x per day. We’ll see.

Update: 1/2/2009: 500mg - he drank this with NO problem, thank goodness! The ProThera tastes a bit lemony-like, but nothing like the taste of the NOW brand we were using.

1/3/2009: 1000mg
1/4/2009: 1500mg

Update 1/4/2009 - so far so good on the 1500mg. Today’s been a wonderful day. We’re just hanging out at home cleaning, watching TV, etc - and Nicholas is helping me clean and hang clothes, playing Wii with daddy - just a great, lazy day - and his behavior has been incredible.

Merck discontinues the single MMR vaccines

28 December, 2008 (23:53) | 6 - News | By: Mom

Merck recently announced that it has decided to stop production on the single M, M & R vaccines and will focus on the combo MMR - which probably comes as no surprise to anyone with a vaccine injured child who has done any research on vaccines. Why? Because no one tells you that you can split up the MMR. Most pediatricians do not offer that information because they have combo MMR shots sitting on their shelves that they have to move before they expire - and when questioned, most pediatricians don’t want to write the script for the separate vaxes - because then their staff will have to administer three separate injections instead of one.

The health of our children just never comes first. Ever. Not before profit. Not before convenience. This was one of the hardest lessons I ever had to learn the hard way. They just don’t care about our kids. It’s all about the allmighty dollar.
