I have made major changes since my last update. Nicholas is no longer drinking supplement juice – he is swallowing capsules, so some supplements have changed to capsules and gelcaps from liquids. Also, we stopped all supplements for a few weeks and added back only the essentials when we continued to do well without everything. And finally, since he is swallowing capsules, I bought a capsule machine so I could combine smaller capsules and make larger ones so he has less to swallow. (And buying supplements in powder is much cheaper too!)
Changes since the last update are:What I eliminated and why: Inositol (research a friend sent me could point to this supplement being the reason for Nicholas’s weight gain so I am going to just be on the safe side) He has been off of this for weeks and weeks now – with no change in his behavior whatsoever, no perseverating, etc. Eliminated additional zinc – he no longer needs that much, when adding it back, it made him crazy Eliminated extra folinic acid – he no longer needs this much, when adding back just a small amount, it also made him a bit crazy Eliminated Milk Thistle Extract – he doesn’t need this on top of liver life Eliminated DMG – does not seem to need it anymore Eliminated Wild Oil of Oregano, Biotin, Gaba, L-Theanine, Vinpocetine Eliminated daily doses of Adrenal Cortex Glandular – he’s been fine without it. The smallest dose started making him crazy. Additions Magnesium Glycinate – 100mg, 1-2 caps per day Now! L-Carnosine – 500mg, 1 cap 2x a day Amla – I bought powder and make 00 caps, he gets 3-4 caps per day Changes Changed multi-vitamin/mineral formula to Lee Silsby Pure ASD Multi Changed Kirkman buffered Vitamin C to Swanson’s Vitamin C – I liked their powder version that I can put into capsules myself and it was extremely cost efficient in comparison to the others switched Vitamin D from Carlson to BioTech switched Nordic Naturals Complete Omega 369 and Green Pasture CLO from liquid to gelcaps switched Vitamin World Vitamin E to Swanson’s Vitamin E Also, he does not get his mb-12 injections daily anymore. He gets them whenever I can give them. If we miss a day, we miss a day.

Wow this is interesting that you cut lots out, great news though! You are brave for taking him off for a while. Before you took him off, could you tell that it was making him crazy? Do you mind telling me what you see with L-carnitine? Thanks
one more! Andy recommends more zinc, have you found even with chelation that he doesn’t need extra zinc?
Alicia – nothing was making him crazy before we took him off of everything. It just happened as a coincidence and I gave him a break – partially because I wanted to see how well he would do without the supplements and for how long – and I was pleasantly surprised. I put back what I feel are his essentials. When I added back in the additional zinc, it made him act like a crazy man, so I stopped giving him the additional zinc. He is still getting the zinc from his multi vitamin and that’s all he’s getting. We have not seen any signs of zinc deficiency at this point, so we’ll continue without the additional for now. Yes, even with chelation, he does not seem to need the extra zinc.
The acetyl-l-carnitine has been great for his language and cognition. The L-Carnosine has been great for language as well.
