I’m not very happy with myself right now and I hope that my utter stupidity has not permanently effected my son. Soy is not good for you. Everything I read points me in that direction. What the heck was I thinking giving my son Soy Formula? and then at 12 months, when he refused milk, we switched to the toddler soy formula – so he was on that until he was about 2 years old. For 2 years, we fed him soy. We didn’t know any better – we thought we were doing the right thing. I so hope this post helps someone. Don’t feed your perfect little angel soy formula, the risks just are not worth it. I wish they would take it off the market. There are alternatives.
What does Soy do exactly??? Here’s a few highlights with links to more info at the bottom.
Proteins in Soybeans act as potent enzyme inhibitors, which means that they block the enzymes needed for protein digestion.
Soy formula can cause vitamin deficiencies, which we have witnessed with our son. It increases the body’s requirements for b-12, which is vital for good health. This may explain why Nicholas is soaring on the b-12 injections.
Aluminum content is 10 times that of a milk-based formula. 10 times. 10 times. 10 times. Sorry, had to say that so it sunk in. Did I mention that Nicholas has way too much aluminum in his system? Perhaps this is why. Aluminum is toxic and has even been implicated in causing Alzheimers.
It lacks cholesterol, lactose and galactose – which are essential for the development of the brain and nervous system.
Did you know that toxicologists have estimated that an infant who is exclusively fed soy formula receives the estrogen equivalent of at least 5 birth control pills per day? On a male baby, what do you think the effects of this much estrogen would be? Especially since they go through a testosterone surge during their first few months, which is when the development of his sexual organs happens. and yet, soy formula is still being produced, why?
The Weston Price Foundation has an article that is a must read when considering formula for your infant. Click here to read it.
Wake Forest University has a study on soy and male monkeys, which is also a must read. Click here to read it.
