Been meaning to write this out for a while…. bear with me – this is a work in progress. I just wanted a space to keep all of my reasons for starting Nicholas on a particular supplement. If it’s listed here, it’s because it works for him.
PS – If you’re reading my blog to help your child, please understand I am not a doctor. I am a mother who is on a mission to heal my son. My information comes from my own research, experience, medical journals and books, doctors, etc – please take what I have written here and do your own research before implementing any supplement plan.
Nordic Naturals – Complete Omega 3-6-9 Liquid – This was the first supplement I ever gave Nicholas. Within 2 weeks, he started babbling/talking. The Omegas are great for so many things; speech, eye contact, socialization, etc. Plus it supports healthy skin, hair, joint flexibilty, normal fat metabolism and aids in maintenance of cell membrane fluidity and stability, development and function of brain and nerve tissue and more.
Brainchild Nutritionals Spectrum Support Vitamins & Minerals – I had heard good things about these supplements and after the Omega 3-6-9 Oil was working, I decided to give them a try. So glad I did. They’re made especially for children who need extra neurological and metabolic support. Right now, Nicholas takes the Ultra Sensitive Vitamins (needed a version without TMG) and the Regular Spectrum Support Minerals. (Please note: I can not recommend any of Brainchild’s other products other than their own vitamin and mineral formulas.)
Vitamin A – Nicholas takes the Green Pastures High Vitamin Cod Liver Oil for his daily supply of Vit A. It supports immune function, vision health, fights infection by activating the immune system’s natural killer cells, activates T-cells and B-cells in the adaptive immune system which supports immune memory, protects against viruses (including measles), great for sensory perception, language processing and attention, and is necessary for cell growth and differentiation (especially in the gut and brain). Note: with the Vit A – Palmitate (which is the version from Kirkman) asorption is impaired if there are mucousal or PH problems in the gut and can deactivate the control switch of many metabolic pathways involved in vision and cell growth….etc. etc. You need to give the natural version of Vit A, not the synthetic palmitate.
Vitamin C –
Vitamin D – Nicholas takes the Green Pastures High Vitamin Cod Liver Oil for his daily supply of Vit D.
Vitamin E – My main reason for adding this was to give Nicholas a boost in language. Vitamin E was successful in doing so. We only use the Vitamin World Natural E-400 d-alpha tocopheryl softgels. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps fight free radicals, reducing the effects of oxidative stress. It promotes immune function and supports cardio health.
Folinic Acid (folic acid) – I added folinic acid after we started with the MB-12 injections because it works synergistically with the MB-12. Folic acid supports cellular perception and response, methylation processes and many enzymatic responses in addition to supporting cardio health.
MB-12 Injections – methylcobolamin – I read alot about the positive results Dr. Neubrander was having with his MB-12 protocol and was quite interested in seeing if Nicholas would be a positive responder. He has really excelled since we started these shots last October – so much so, that we are now giving him a shot every day instead of every third day. For more info on MB-12, visit Dr. Neubrander’s website.
DMG – Dimethylglycine – In all of the research I did, I saw that parents were having great successes with DMG in regards to getting their child to talk, add more words, etc. We added DMG and got the same results. DMG is a non-protein amino acid which assists with cellular perception and response and is also involved in maintaining healthy homocysteine levels.
Gaba – I added this supplement to calm Nicholas down. Gaba is an amino acid which is classified as a neurotransmitter, which are deposited at the end of nerve cells and picked up by other nerve cells in order to send impulses throughout the brain and nervous system. Gaba is known to have a calming effect and to improves restful sleep.
Zinc – I added this supplement because I read that chewing on clothing could be a sign of a zinc defiency. So, I added Zinc and the chewing stopped. I have also read that it helps with the MB-12 injections as well. Zinc is needed for the development and maintenance of the brain, adrenals, immune system and GI tract.
Inositol – This was in the original Brainchild Vitamin Spectrum II formula that Nicholas was on, but when I had to switch to the Ultra Sensitive, I had to supplement this vitamin. Inositol is a B vitamin and I have seen this help with compliance. Inositol is involved in certain signaling processes that transmit messages inside cells.
Grapefruit Seed Extract – I added this to combat yeast.
Culturelle Probiotic – I added this to add some beneficial bacteria to his gut and to also assist with his yeast issue.
Virastop – I added this to help fight viruses and to also see if it would stop him from bringing every bug home from school (it worked wonders) – it has stirred up yeast, but we’re working on that!
L-Theanine – I added this to calm Nicholas down after hyperactivity came back when starting the MB-12 shots
Liverlife – I added this because I wanted to give him something to support his liver. I read alot of really good reviews on this product and decided to give it a try. Nicholas’s dark circles under his eyes are gone since adding this supplement. I had read that dark circles under the eyes could mean that the liver needed support. (It can also mean a lot of other things, such as food allergies, etc.)
Milk Thistle Extract –
Selenium – Selenium can help in making the body’s mercury less toxic. Since we’re also doing MB-12, it is also helpful in supporting the methylation cycle. (Selenium is not to be taken during chelation because it apparently binds mercury and prevents excretion.) Nicholas gets his Selenium in his brainchild supplement.
Calm Child – I added this supplement on a whim while I was shopping at the Vitamin Shoppe. I figured for 10 bucks it was worth a try. So glad I did. Really calms Nicholas down nicely. He only gets 1/8 teaspoon 3x per day – that’s 1/2 the recommended dose on the bottle. (I only have to use this every once in a while anymore!)
Oxypowder – In search of something to help Nicholas with his constipation problem, I read about Oxypowder. Lots of parents use this quite successfully, so I decided to give this a try. This stuff is awesome. It helps me to keep him “going” – and with major yeast issues, it needs to get out of him asap. This definately does the trick!
No Fenol – Nicholas does demonstrate a phenol reaction to certain foods like apples, tomatoes, etc. When he gets crazy hyper with bright red ears and/or cheeks, then we know it’s time for a No-Fenol. Works like a charm. Redness and back to normal in 10 minutes.
Peptizyde –
Zyme Prime –
Saccharomyces Boulardii –
Lactobacillus Acidophillus –
Advanced Formula Biocidin –
