New Supplement added today

I added EnZym-Complete/DPP-IV from Kirkmanlabs.com

Why did I add this?  Antibodies against casien and gluten cross react to lymphocytes containing CD26 & CD69.  CD26 is a receptor protein expressed on a digestive enzyme called DPP-IV which is used to digest gluten and casein peptides.  Abnormalities in this enzyme might explain why they have both gluten and casein peptide sensitivities in their methlation cycle.   (Loose stools and gas could point to abnormal carb digestivev enzyme activity.)

The American Academy of Pediatrics takes the first step!

The AAP showed up at the Defeat Autism Now! conference this past weekend and it seems that they may be actually listening.  Read about it here:

IgG Food Antibody Assessment Results

IgG Food Antibodies indicate delayed Food Sensitivities; which means that these foods are stressing the gut and contributing to it’s constant inflamed state.

  • Moderate:  Gluten, Turkey
  • Low:  Avocado, Cheddar cheese, cottage cheese, egg white (moderate IgE), egg yolk (moderate IgE), soy (High IgE)
  • Very Low:  Buckwheat (moderate IgE), Cabbage, Cane Sugar, Casein, Celery, Cod, Corn (High IgE), Cow’s Milk (moderate IgE), Garlic, Goat’s Milk, Lactalburnin, Lettuce, Mushroom, Oat, Oyster, Pea, Peanut, Sweet Potato, White Potato, Rye, Sole, Spinach, String Bean, Trout, Tuna, Walnut, Wheat (High IgE), Yeast, Yogurt
  • None:  Alfalfa, Almond (High IgE), Apple, Apricot, Asparagus, Bananna, Beef, Beet, Blueberry, Broccoli, Carrot, Chicken, Chocolate, clam, Coffee, Corn gluten, Crab, Cranberry, Cucumber, Grape, Grapefruit, Green pepper, Honey, Kidney Bean, Lamb, Lemon, Lentil, Lima Bean, Lobster, Olive, Onion, Orange, Papaya, Peach, Pear, Pecan, Pineapple, Pinto bean, Plum, Pork, raspberry, Red Snapper, Rice, Salmon, Sardine, Sesame (Moderate IgE), Shrimp, Strawberry, Sunflower Seed, Tomato, Zucchini

IgE Food Antibody Assessment Results

IgE Food Antibodies show which foods would trigger an immediate allergic reaction.

Nicholas has quite a few moderate to very high levels of antibodies to certain foods:

  • Buckwheat:  II – Moderate
  • Corn: III – High
  • Oat: I – Low
  • Rice:  III – High
  • Sesame: II – Moderate
  • Soybean:  III – High
  • Wheat: III – High
  • Egg white: II – Moderate
  • Cow’s milk:  II – Moderate
  • Almond: III – High
  • Coconut: II – Moderate
  • Hazelnut: IV – Very High
  • Peanut: III – High

Supplements I am thinking of adding next…

  • Milk Thistle:  Even though Nicholas is taking Liver Life, which has milk thistle in it, I still think he could benefit from some additional Milk Thistle, so I’m going to add it to his arsenal.
  • Lysine:  Lysine will help to eliminate strep.  Will be started at 250 mg / day working up to 5o0 mg/day
  • Olive Leaf Extract (OLE):  I personally already know how awesome this is, and will be putting Nicholas on this as well.  It’s taste is really bad (think swamp), so I really need to figure out a way to mix this in.
  • Pau D’ Arco:  fights yeast
  • DPP-IV
  • B-6- P5P
  • Glutathione
  • N-Acetyl Cysteine
  • Vitmain K
  • Oil of Oregano
  • Saccharomyces Boulardii
  • VSL3

Added Acetyl L-Carntine today

1 capsule per day – 500mg Acetyl L-Carnitine HCL from NSI (Neutraceutical Sciences Institute) – started off with 1/4 of the capsule for now – will work up to full 500mg.

I added this because it supposedly has the ability to improve brain function and memory, enhances the release of dopamine and improves dopamine’s binding to it’s receptors, improves attention span, improves mood and improves verbal fluency.

Well, well, well…. it’s about time!

The American Academy of Pediatrics issued a statement today that they have recently reached out to Defeat Autism Now! so that they can better understand treatments and interventions that we have found beneficial to our children.  I sincerely hope that this is the beginning to the AAP actually addressing this growing epidemic and not a deceitful tactic to discredit what so many parents, like myself, have gone through to recover our children.  With past statements from the AAP and the CDC, I honestly cannot fully trust their intentions at this point, but I am open and hopeful that we are moving in the right direction. http://aap.org/advocacy/releases/apr08autismday.htm

For any pediatricians who have come across my blog, I welcome you to contact me at anytime regarding anything you have seen written here.  I am more than happy to share research, experiences, answer questions, anything – if it will help you to form your own hypothesis and treat children instead of turning them away with a diagnosis and no where to go.  E-mail me at mom(at)recoveringnicholas.com, anytime.

“Most recently, the AAP met with representatives of Defeat Autism Now! (a program of the Autism Research Institute) in an effort to facilitate communication between pediatricians, parents and researchers about the diagnosis and treatment of children with autism. All advocates for these children agree that further research is needed regarding causes as well as safe and effective treatment.”

As far as I’m concerned this is a first step towards healing children and I’m looking forward to what the AAP is going to do next.   Hopefully it will include a review and overhaul of our current vaccination schedule.
