Finally enjoying holiday festivities!

I almost forgot to write about this…. but just more supporting details that Nicholas finally got Christmas and the festivities surrounding the holidays this year…

We baked cookies, we decorated the Christmas Tree, we decorated the house with Christmas lights, we watched Christmas specials, the Walt Disney Christmas Day parade….. and there’s more…. oh so much more…

Right after Thanksgiving, we went out and purchased a new Christmas tree. We really had no choice this year as some new furniture made it impossible to use our tree ever again. So, we put up the tree and Nicholas helped decorate it. And not just one ornament – he was hanging one ornament after another and another. He even looked at the tree and started singing “O Christmas Tree” – we were in shock.

Well, Mommy wasn’t all that happy with the way this tree looked with our ornaments, so we decided to return it, buy a real tree this year and worry about it next year. Nicholas came home from school and the tree was gone. He was shocked not to see the tree there – and kept asking where the tree was. He was thrilled when Daddy brought the new tree in – and he was more than eager to help us decorate the tree once again.

In the midst of the tree debacle, the Christmas shows are starting to play on the major stations. Nicholas watched Rudolf – I cannot tell you how many times. We watched Shrek the Halls a few times – and there were others… I cannot convey how much I enjoyed FINALLY getting to watch these Christmas shows with my son. and he loved them. And he knows who Charlie Brown and Snoopy are – and we watched this Christmas show too – and he loved it. I thought he’d be bored with all of these, but he loved them.

Daddy decorated the outside of the house with white and colored lights, three reindeer of varying heights who moved like they were flying. Nicholas was in absolute delight watching them from the diningroom window. A couple of weeks ago, we added an inflatable Santa Mickey to our collection – and if that Mickey was not inflated when Nicholas got home from school, we heard about it! 🙂

A few days ago, we broke out the cookie dough and made Christmas cookies. Nicholas (and his cookie cutters) were all in. We cut out trains and stockings, snowmen and candy canes. He had a blast. and has asked me several times when we were going to make more cookies. Funny thing was, he wouldn’t eat them. He loved using his rolling pin to roll out the dough, put flour on it, cut out his shapes and put the tray in the oven. He checked the oven several times to watch them cooking – and then was SO excited when it was time for them to come out. He would not even take a bite. So funny.

Christmas Day, I DVR’d the Walt Disney Christmas Day Parade. I love to watch them (when I have the power to fast forward) – and he sat and watched quite a bit of it with me. He was in awe over the Disney Characters, floats and such. I still have it recorded, we may just watch it again.

At Nicholas’s Christmas party at school, he handed out his gifts to his teachers – telling each one Merry Christmas as he handed them their present. Then giving each one an umprompted hug and kiss.

He knew Santa was bringing presents and talked about putting cookies and milk out for him. (Oops, mom forgot to prompt this when we got home late on Christmas eve)

I’ll add more as it comes to mind…..
