Yay!

Nicholas is again saying more things we’ve never heard before — and is getting to be quite conversational. We’re not there yet, but I can hold a back and forth with him and actually get real answers.

Last night, we went for a ride in the car — he said, “mommy, where are we going?” to the store Nicholas “Yay!” — grandma and I cracked up –I had never, ever heard him say yay!

I sneezed last Wednesday when Nicholas was downstairs with his therapist. I hear him clear as day ask her “what was that sound?” mommy sneezed “oh, bless you mommy” When he hears an unfamiliar noise now, he’s asking what that sound was. Before this past week, I had NEVER heard him respond to a noise like this. He’s said bless you before to people who have sneezed, but the noise thing — Just another example of him coming back into our world. Yay!

Drugging kids is mainstream, but changing a diet is alternative…

I just received an email newsletter from the Mayo Clinic and I had to write about it. Here’s the article:

Ask a Children’s Health Specialist: Autism treatment: Can special diets help?

I wrote to them after reading this and wanted to share my response. If you are moved to do the same, click here to contact them.

I just unsubscribed from your housecall mailing list and wanted to let you know why.

I no longer have any respect for Pediatricians who continue to tow the party line when it comes to autism, nor do I have any respect for organizations who continue to allow it. The gluten/casein free diet has been an effective diet for many children with autism helping to alleviate many symptoms of autism. There is a huge body of evidence and yet organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics just continue to turn their heads instead of investigating this further. I used to believe that these organizations main objectives were people’s health, but I am baffled on a daily basis when a simple thing such a dietary change is referred to as an alternative autism treatment. However, drugs such as risperdal are prescribed by these same doctors at the same rate in which Halloween candy is handed out every October 31st. Diet changes are alternative and drugs for children are mainstream.

Many parents who have removed gluten and casein from their child’s diet have done more research on nutrition than parents who feed their children food loaded with high fructose corn syrup, msg and the like. Those same parents are also working closely with their child’s physicians to monitor nutritional levels, unlike those parents who have no regard to the food their children eat on a daily basis.

Those same parents have blood work results showing food allergies to gluten, casein and a plethora of other foods. You certainly would not continue to feed a child peanuts if testing revealed an allergy. So why wouldn’t the same logic be applied to foods which are triggering a reaction in a particular child?

It is disappointing that instead of answering this parent’s question with information that may have been useful to his/her child, such as suggesting the pediatrician have a food allergen profile run to rule out an allergy, he responded with the same useless answer which has been given time and time again.

More and more parents are moving away from taking their children to mainstream pediatricians and this doctor’s terrible answer is just one reason as to why.

We’re done with Smuckers too…

“With a name like Smuckers, it has to be good”

So, I guess since they’re Smuckers that we should just take their word for it since you know, their slogan tells us so — Yeah, well, this doesn’t fly with us anymore – we are no longer the uneducated consumers.

Why are we done with Smuckers? Because they have decided to discontinue disclosing ingredient information to external sources claiming their ingredient labels should be enough.
J.M. Smucker Company – What are they hiding?

For the average customer, ingredient labels are enough. And by average customer, I mean those who don’t even read the labels. Not the customer who knows the real ingredients in food colorings, “natural flavorings”, etc. Not the customer who has a child with multiple food allergies and sensitivites.

So, dear Smuckers, since you no longer think you need to disclose ingredient information, we no longer need to purchase your products. (I guess you didn’t want to have to disclose that nice healthy serving of Mercury in your Strawberry Jelly, now did you?)

Wrapping your child’s mattress

When shopping around for organic mattresses (and almost fainting at the prices of them), I found this information to wrap your existing mattresses so that you or your child is not breathing in the fumes when they sleep.

Buy some thick (125 microns) clear polythene – not polyvinyl chloride (PVC) Wrap. It comes in a roll. Its like 5mil Polythylene sheeting which is used for construction and remodeling to block things like lead dust. (you can try Home Depot or Lowes)

You will need enough to completely cover the top and sides of the mattress (and in one piece so it is airtight) – you leave the bottom of the mattress unwrapped. You can secure the sheeting with strong adhesive tape.

PS – We did end up buying Nicholas an organic mattress from WhiteLotus.net and it is one of the most comfortable mattresses I have ever slept on.

Round 20: Complete

20 rounds down…… Time has flown by. Nicholas just gets better and better and better. This, by far, has been the most rewarding biomedical intervention yet. (and the cheapest!) – When we first started biomed, the gains were slow in coming. If I compared his progress of today versus when we first started – it just blows me away. So, if you’re starting out — hang in there, we were once there too!

How Important is Hepatitis B Vaccination at Birth?

Ian’s Voice

I cannot even begin to think about how these parents even managed to live through this. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all. Ian is an angel keeping guard over his little brother, Vance. Words cannot even begin to convey the distraught I feel over a life of a child taken from his loving family too soon. These parents are true warriors and I am so thankful for parents like these who come forward and share their child’s story.

We live in a world where there is a label on a package of cigarettes warning us of the danger of smoking – but nurses in hospitals are quick to inject an hour old baby with a vaccine – never sharing any information with you regarding that vaccine prior to the injection. As always, one side of the story is provided to you. Your child needs this and that’s it. A vaccine for a disease spread through sex or IV drug use. Neither activity a baby this young will be taking any part of. But yet your child “needs” this. Provided the mother is not Hep B positive, there is absolutely no reason a healthy child should get a vaccination for hepatitis B at birth.

And for the parents who wish to decline this vaccination – they need to be vigilant to never let their baby leave their sight while in the hospital because in many cases nurses just complete their normal routine including vaccinating and could mistakenly vaccinate your baby anyway against your wishes and your rights.

I often wonder how the professionals who continue to tow this party line sleep at night. Do they ever wonder how many children their hands have had a hand in harming? Do they even care? Have they ever stepped back and said, “woah, we’re vaccinating a just-born infant for a disease transmitted through sex and IV drug use?”

Why is it so hard for parents to understand that simple logic has not been applied when the vaccination schedule was updated to add this vaccine in the first place? Greed and profit has taken over the vaccine program. A vaccine like this given to a newborn is proof.

Why is it so hard for parents to see that doctors and medical staff don’t know everything and the white coats and nurses uniforms do not signify a god-like status of knowing everything? In this case, they vaccinated a sick child, which by the way is very common amongst autistic children. These professionals, along with countless others, did not even read the instructions given on the vaccine insert before injecting their baby. Doesn’t anyone ever ask WHY this is? Do they feel that they don’t need to? or don’t care to? or have they just been trained to just do it and not ask questions?

The time has come for all parents to ask questions until they are answered. With REAL answers. We all need to demand a safer vaccination schedule for our children. Turning back the clock to the 1983 schedule and going from there would be a good start.
1983 Vaccination Schedule

Change is in the air…

Nicholas was sick last week, but was much better so we went ahead and chelated this weekend. I cannot believe the language coming out of him — the complete (and correct!) sentences are flooring us. We’re in the middle of round 20.

Earlier today, his grandmother went upstairs to get a toy for him – and he called up the stairs, “Grandma, what are you doing upstairs? Come down please”

and this is only one example of many!

If you ask him a question, he will respond with “yes, mommy…..” and then go on to confirm the question. So now I know that he knows what he is saying and it’s not just a programmed response.

If he does not want to do something, he will now answer “no,……” and go into what he wants to do instead.

Nicholas got the bicycle tv game which comes with all kinds of games that they have to pedal the bicycle to do. When he got it, he wasn’t ready for it – so we had packed it away. We pulled it out this weekend — and wow — he’s playing these games! He’s pedaling the bike! He’s playing video games. He was so thrilled with playing this last night, I snuck away and watched an entire movie by myself in peace!!!!!!! We had to unplug the TV to get him to bed, but I was just so proud seeing him use the pedals and joystick to play the games. And no one showed him how to play. My husband thought I did and I thought he did, but he did not need much help with it at all.

His sink play has changed. (Thank goodness!) He has been obsessed with the sink on and off and has been wanting to just let the water run and run and run. This past week, this has ceased and he is having some really meaningful play at the sink (and the best part it is – the water is not constantly running!)

He is suddenly interested in more food. Last week, I made kielbasa for daddy and myself. Nicholas took his fork, grabbed a big un-cut hunk of kielbasa and started eating it. Not thinking it would last long, I let him do it just to see what was going to happen. He ate about an inch of it – happily – telling me it was delicious the whole time! (Nicholas knows delicious and disgusting and uses these words all the time)

He asked me to make pancakes this morning, which I happily obliged. He actually ate some. I was shocked to say the least.

More to come as I remember….

What is happening to the food supply in this country?

Our food supply in deep trouble and is rapidly being destroyed. Soon enough there will be no food which isn’t genetically modified, irradiated, etc.

10 years ago the US CDC…

10 years ago, the US CDC partially supported the study titled, “Neuropsychological Performance 10 Years After Immunization in Infancy With Thimerosal-Containing Vaccines”

10 years ago. 10 years.

I’ve known that the connection has been known for quite some time, but seeing this in print like this just hurts. Again.

They were already setting themselves up to disprove this link 10 years ago. And Nicholas will be 5 later this year. So seeing the numbers in print really hurts.

Yes folks, just another poorly designed study to tell the world what they want the world to be told… and it’s a big fat stinking lie and the number of people who know it’s a lie increases on a daily basis. Both groups of children injected (deliberately) with thimerosal. The thought makes me sick to my stomach.

High Fructose Corn Syrup contaminated with Mercury

This is disgraceful on so many levels. First melamine in our food supply… and now this. How do we trust anyone at this point with the food we buy and feed to our families? Why does this keep happening? and for crying out loud, where the hell is the FDA? (Not like I have any faith in them anymore, but come on! Side note: this is what kills me about people too — they have blinders on to this stuff, to this blatant failure of a system that we believe is protecting us from these kinds of things in our food and drugs — but yet, most people see this and see the problem, but bring up vaccines and the FDA’s failure to protect our kids – and wow, the FDA becomes the equivalent of the holy grail.)

So, in light of this report, I have thrown away the food products which tested positive for mercury on this list. My beloved bottle of heinz ketchup – gone. My smuckers strawbelly jelly – gone. My hershey’s chocolate syrup – gone. The list goes on and on. I will be writing to each of these companies to let them know they have lost a customer – and you should really do the same. Until we stand up and demand better food products instead of ones laden with High Fructose Corn Syrup and send clear messages to those companies to keep cranking out this crap they call food – nothing will ever change.

On another note, I would like to thank the IATP, Heinz, Smuckers and Hershey for giving me the final kick in the ass I needed to permanently remove this crap from our diets. New rule in our house, if it says HFCS on the label, it’s not being purchased.

From the: Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy

Two new papers look at the presence of mercury in high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). An article in Environmental Health finds mercury in commercial HFCS. An IATP study finds mercury in common foods and beverages.

Much High Fructose Corn Syrup Contaminated With Mercury, New Study Finds Press release | Jan 26 | PDF

Environmental Health article

Table A: Total mercury detected in 55 brand-name foods and beverages high in HFCS. PDF

PS: I just wanted to add that there was no detectable amount of mercury in the Heinz ketchup in the bottle that was tested, but I still decided to throw it away. From the study, it’s like playing russian roulette where not all items are made with the HFCS that contains mercury. It seems like a problem of what source the manufacturer uses at a given time — in addition to the fact that other heinz products did have mercury – I will not take the chance on eating it any longer. This was not a huge study – so perhaps they grabbed the bottle of ketchup which was not contaminated, and the bottle behind that one on the shelf (or in another store entirely) is contaminated. Removing the consumption of foods with HFCS can only be good for us – I am so sick of what is passed off as acceptable when it comes to our food supply and health.
